Course Assessment

To achieve the full Chemistry A Level you must take the exams and practical assessments. You will be responsible for booking your exams. We can help you to find your nearest exam centre and we have 7 recommended exam centres across the country. You can contact us for help with this whenever you are ready. All topics will be assessed by 3 paper-based examinations. A more detailed breakdown of the exams is provided below: Paper 1:

• Type: Written examination
• Duration: 2 hours
• Weighing: 35% of A Level
• Total Marks: 105
• Assessed: Relevant physical chemistry topics, inorganic chemistry and relevant practical skills
• Assessment format: A mixture of short and long answer questions

Paper 2:

• Type: Written examination
• Duration: 2 hours
• Weighing: 35% of A Level
• Total Marks: 105
• Assessed: Relevant physical chemistry topics, organic chemistry and relevant practical skills
• Assessment format: A mixture of short and long answer questions

Paper 3:

• Type: Written examination
• Duration: 2 hours
• Weighing: 30% of A Level
• Total Marks: 90
• Assessed: Any content and practical skills
• Assessment format: Questions on practical techniques and data analysis (40 marks), questions testing the specification (20 marks) multiple-choice questions (30 marks)

COURSE DURATION

You will have 2 years to complete the full A-Level from the date you receive your materials. You will be able to study at your own pace and in your own time without the pressure of tight deadlines.

COURSE OUTCOME

Upon successful completion of the examinations, you will receive the AQA accredited A-Level in Chemistry These subject-based qualifications that can lead to university, further study, training, or work. It is possible for students to receive an A-Level Chemistry qualification without completing the practical assessment, although your certificate will state you have not done so and it may seriously harm your chances of securing a place at university or getting a job. On your written exams 15% of marks rely on having some knowledge of these practical skills. Therefore we strongly advise you to take your practical assessments.
