Workplace Safety Building and Construction

Overview

This module should be completed after the Work safe in the workplace - General work health and safety module. The building and construction module will build upon knowledge gained in the general work health and safety module and provide participants with a greater understanding and knowledge of hazards and issues in the building and construction industry. The building and construction industry includes a range of work activities such as:

• setting up working platforms and temporary power sources;
• safe operation and maintenance of equipment including hand tools, portable power tools and specialist tools;
• taking measurements and site levels;
• performing site calculations;
• preparing sites and pouring and finishing concrete pads;
• working with internal partitioning; and,
• other trade services like plastering, painting and tiling.

The Construction Work Code of Practice sets out a range of measures which ensure work safety in relation to working in construction in Australia and Newzealand. Each country has its own Construction code of practice but has similar measures to ensure the standards of safety at the workplace.
