Description
In this course, Cultures, you will address the question of traditional music and music from the francophone world, and you will examine the place they occupy in the world of artistic creation. The course is divided into three sections: 'Is traditional music, current music?', 'The musical heritage of Normandy' and 'Music of the francophone world'.
Introduction
This course concentrates on popular music. Through examples taken from the Norman heritage, rock in Louisiana, or slam in Bordeaux, you will enjoy, we hope, the diversity of what is called "musiques actuelles’’. A few favorite themes of the Norman and Breton heritage will be covered in more detail. Finally, we will take you on a mini-tour of the francophone musical scene, discovering the work of a few artists whose inspiration draws its sources from three different continents. Please note:
Although the introductory text is in English, the main course itself is entirely in French.
