Introduction

This course, History as commemoration, consider ways in which written texts, memorials, letters, and photographs can all serve to commemorate events, people, and values we wish to remember from our past.

• Understand that history is selective, that is, that history books tell us what historians have selected rather than everything that happened
• Critically view the meaning and role of 'facts' in history.
