This free course is a general introduction to the frozen planet, including the temperature in the polar regions; the energy from the Sun and the seasons; reading and understanding graphs and maps; and how the Arctic and Antarctic regions are defined.
Course learning outcomes
After studying this course, you should be able to:- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the core concepts in physics, biology, chemistry, geology and basic mathematics that underpin our understanding of the polar world
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the processes and interactions (physical, biological, chemical and geological) which shape the polar environment at different temporal and spatial scales
- express concepts in an objective and factually correct way
- make sense of the information presented in different ways, including textual, numerical or graphical material.
